What a Load

Senior contributing editor Martin Heller found a way to humble the most gonzo workstation. Preparing for a series of development-tool reviews, he installed Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Office 97, Visual Studio 97 Enterprise Edition and Internet Information Server; Borland's Delphi 3, C++ Builder and IntraBuilder; and Sybase's Power Builder, Power++ and PowerJ. The result? The Registry file takes 8MB, the memory footprint is 35MB, and the system constantly uses the hard disk. Bringing up the Start menu takes 10 seconds.
