ABOUT:

This is meant to go atop an existing install of Lunacy's v0.5.2
English patch for Kagetsu Tohya. It is both an engine and script
update for the purpose of ensuring that the engine will run on
more recent systems, and that the game will run on the updated
engine.

See "MORE TECHNICAL ABOUT" for the changelog.



INSTALLING:

Short answer: Drop the contents of this here zip into the folder
of your current working English game, and click "yes" on all
overwrite prompts.

Better answer: Move or delete your current English game
executable, all DLL files, stderr.txt and stdout.txt, and any
save-related files; THEN drop the contents of this zip into the
folder, and you will then have a clean patched install that
ought to work better than new.

Save files are now kept in the hidden folder
C:\ProgramData\Kagetsu Tohya. You can try moving your old
envdata, gloval.sav, NScrflog.dat/NScrllog.dat, and save files
there, but it is recommended to start fresh if you have not
progressed far in the game.



RUNNING THE GAME:

Double-click the executable and it will most likely work.
Consult the previous readme to see a list of controls.
This patch is only for use with the ONScripter-EN engine. You
may visit https:/kaisernet.neocities.org/onscripter for Linux
builds, source code, more information, and any updates which may
come about.

If you would like to play at high resolution, you can now make a
text file named ons.cfg, and put in it "scale" to make the game
open in the maximum resolution your screen allows, or
"window-width=[value in pixels]" to set your own width.

Note that the included executable has the original Japanese
Kagetsu Tohya icon set applied to it. If you use a different
executable, such as one for Linux, you can rename
icon_optional.png to icon.png in order to make that icon
display in the game's title bar.



MORE TECHNICAL ABOUT:

I first patched this game in 2019 to do the bare minimum in
order to make it run on the latest (June 28th, 2011) build of
ONScripter-EN. I recently noticed that said ONScr-EN build was
causing the opening messages not to display correctly; they had
been done with text strings and faked space characters, and thus
were formatted manually. So, fixing that was the biggest reason
for this new patch, but a handful of other bug fixes have been
made also. Additionally, for all you translators out there, this
script will run on ONSlaught as I have fixed the most pressing
bugs.

- Some broken setcursor lines have been replaced with working
ones. They had previously prevented the game from starting with
scale or window-width options.

- A ;gameid containing the name of the game has been added so
that save files are now stored the ONScr-EN way.

- Two ^ characters were removed from the cdfadeout and
mp3fadeout lines as they served no purpose and were only
confusing the engine. Also, cdfadeout is kept, on the off-chance
that ONScr might someday support it.

- The clickstr lines have been commented out as clickstr is
routinely a hindrance in English games. If this causes any
issues mid-game, I will update the patch to fix them
individually.

- All opening messages have been redirected to subroutines which
display them as real text instead of strings. So, they are no
longer formatted manually and they no longer depend on the ^ to
fake a space character in the font. This is especially valuable
for future translations which may use proportional-width fonts,
or which may simply not want to format over 200 chunks of text
manually.

- Removed a duplicate of the subroutine *quiz2ss. This was
preventing the game from starting on ONSlaught.
